We are a registered autonomous society, registered under society registration act 1860. We have been implementing the national Mahila Samakhya (MS) programme. Mahila Samakhya is one of the best programme for the women’s empowerment. We empower women through education, health, legal training, economic empowerment and women's participation in local governance. Jharkhand Mahila Samakhya Society is committed to empower each woman to attain equality and their just place in family, society and governance. We work for the most backward and poorest section of women. At present we cover 4098 villages of 71 blocks of 11 districts of Jharkhand. (Ranchi, Khunti, Chatra, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Saraikela, Garhwa, Giridih, Pakur, Godda, Sahebganj) We choose new districts for coverage according to the women’s literacy rate and their condition in the society. We generally work in the areas of least women’s literacy rate. |

Mahila Samakhya: Background An international conference was organized in zometine city of Thailand in 1986, in which the pathetic condition of women was the main issues of discussion. The conclusion of this conference was that in the National Education Policy of India in 1986, the special emphasis was given on women empowerment. The ministry of HRD initiated Mahila Samakhya Programme for the encouragement of women’s equality and education. After that in the year 1991, under the program “Education for All” Mahila Samakhya Program was started in integrated Bihar. Jharkhand Mahila Samkhya Program began in 1992 under the Bihar education project. in the initial stages 3 blocks of Ranchi and 2 blocks of East Singbhum were covered. Later Mahila Samakhya Program was started in Chatra in the year 1994-95 and in West Singhbhum in the year 1997-98. Jharkhand was established as a new state in 2000. In spite of negligence and lack of funds Mahila Samakhya Programme continued but the progress was slowl. During this period Mahila Samakhya Program was running in 3308 villages of 37 blocks of 4 districts Chatra, Ranchi, West Singhbhum and East Singbhum. Jharkhand Mahila Samakhya Society got registered under Society Registration Act 1860 on 6th September 2006, and it started working as an independent unit from June 2007.
